LIVING CRAFTS: FAIR AND CERTIFIED ORGANIC CLOTHING MADE OF NATURAL FIBERS
In addition to organic cotton and wool, we also use organic linen. Ecological organic clothing can also be functional! That‘s why we rely on functional material blends and fabrics made of organic wool and silk or half-linen weave.
LIVING CRAFTS garments are certified with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) seal along the entire value chain. The conditions of the Naturland association are also considered in our production. We not only value ecological production, but also maintain long-term relationships with our suppliers and pay attention to the working conditions of the producers. We always personally ensure this on site. This not only provides our customers with pollutant-free natural textiles without chemicals at reasonable prices, but also contributes to a positive development in the global textile industry.
Since 2016, LIVING CRAFTS has been a proud member of the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF), which advocates for fair working conditions in the fashion industry and thus ensures the production of ecological clothing. In view of the global climate crisis, LIVING CRAFTS achieved another significant certification in 2020 and was awarded as a "climate-neutral company" by ClimatePartner. This certification underlines LIVING CRAFTS‘ commitment to environmental protection and shows that the company minimizes its ecological footprint by saving emissions where possible and offsetting the remaining emissions through climate protection projects.
WHAT IS ORGANIC COTTON - AND HOW IS THE ECO-FIBER CREATED?
Only 1 percent of the global cotton production is invested in organic cotton. We are often asked what organic cotton is and how it is produced. And what makes green fashion more sustainable than the widespread fast fashion?
The biggest difference is water consumption. When cultivating organic cotton, crop rotation is observed, which results in the soil containing more organic matter and being able to store more water. In addition, rainwater is collected and used for irrigation. There is also a big difference in the plant itself: genetically modified plants, pesticides, and chemical-synthetic fertilizers and pesticides are prohibited! Organic cotton produces its own seeds, from which new plants can grow. This is significantly cheaper for the mostly small-scale farms, leading to better wages and prices. Finally, the organic cotton is hand-picked. Machines that damage the plants and fields are therefore excluded, resulting in higher quality.
These reasons - for the environment and the people - show why you too should pay attention to fair and ecological production when buying clothing.
